The Beach Tavern opened its doors six months after prohibition was ended in 1934 and has
been open ever since. Overlooking Tacoma's senic waterfront at Titlow Beach with views of
the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, Fox Island, Point Fosdick and Hales Passage gave "The
Beach" it's perfect name. The ambiance of the tavern has a nautical feel and theme.
"Ernie", the wolf eel keeps an eye on guests at the bar while an old brass
diving helmet watches the rest.
Old and historic photographs line the east wall with memories of Tacoma and the Narrows
Bridge in the early 40's & 50's. |
The horseshoe-shaped bar, four booths, and ample tables allow accomodation of up to
100 guests. There's a Shuffle-board table, three pool tables, several pull tabs, two dart
boards, big screen TV, pinball game, music, and the ever popular video golf game for
entertainment.
Each year The Beach has a golf tournament for its patrons, and about twice a year hosts
Mike Murphy, a very special guest comedian to entertain their guests.
This July, The Beach held a fundraiser for the Tacoma General Hospital Neo-natal unit and
raised over $12,000 |
