| The fourth largest city in Pierce County, University Place is just 15 minutes from downtown Tacoma. Once known as "The West End", University Place was incorporated several years ago as a new city with a rich history. In the late 1800s, it was proposed that a university be located and built in the community. | |

As time passed, financial worries and concerns eventually canceled any plans to build a university here. Nevertheless, the community became known as the "university place" and the name stuck Since then, University Place has become a suburban residential community with a population of nearly 32,000 people who are proud of its history, eager to retain its unique quality of life, and are looking ahead to future challenges. |
| The area has a long waterfront, home to marinas for recreational boating, and docks for fishing and scuba diving locations, as well as a thriving, growing, business district with a large variety of stores and boutiques, fast food and upscale restaurants, and many service and entertainment facilities. | |
